Liam George Physiotherapy A Journey Built on Experience
I made my professional debut for Luton Town Football Club at the age of 17, embarking on a 12-year career as a professional footballer. One of my proudest moments came in 1998 when I scored the winning penalty for Ireland to secure the Under-18 European Championship title. However, alongside the highs of professional football, I also faced many challenges, including frequent injuries that kept me on the sidelines.
During my career, I underwent 10 surgical procedures, including complex ankle reconstruction, multiple knee surgeries, and treatment for several broken legs. Spending significant time in recovery and rehabilitation gave me a unique perspective on the importance of effective physiotherapy and sparked my interest in health, fitness, and well-being.
Towards the end of my football career, I took my first steps toward this new passion by becoming a Level 3 REPs Register of Exercise Professionals certified personal trainer. Transitioning into personal training and strength and conditioning coaching allowed me to combine my athletic experience with a growing knowledge of fitness and rehabilitation.
From Patient to Practitioner
My own journey through physiotherapy working with both exceptional and less effective practitioners fueled my desire to make a real difference in the field. In 2006, I made the decision to retrain as a physiotherapist. With the support of the Professional Footballers Association PFA, I completed a BSc Honours Degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Salford.
Since graduating in 2011, I've gained extensive experience across various sectors of the health and fitness industry. My career has spanned private health clubs, gyms, and work within the NHS as a physiotherapy assistant in a neurological unit. This role deepened my understanding of the complex interplay between the nervous system and physical rehabilitation.
In addition, I honed my skills in the private sector with Physioworld/TICCS/ Ascenti for 4 years, one of the UKs leading physiotherapy companies. Working my way up to regional head physiotherapist. These diverse experiences have equipped me with a broad skill set and a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
